Alexa Chung: IT

When it comes to style inspiration/icons, two words and one name come to mind and that is the fabulous, Alexa Chung. This girl is a walking runway. From dominating the street style world to landing magazine covers, this girl has built her own platform! One thing I love about her is her ability to pull of effortless looks that do indeed require well...effort. And I love the fact that her personal style always has that touch of girly. Not womanly girly, but instead, little girl kind of touch. Which I can definitely relate to. Cause now at the age of 21, I still don't think I've been able to achieve the act of dressing "womanly" and I've learned that, that's just not me and it's perfectly okay! When I heard she was coming out with a book I got really excited and knew I had to own it. Thankfully it was gifted to me for my birthday and voila it is now mine. So for those who are eager to buy it, here's a sneak peek to it :P

Not only can Alexa Chung look fab all the time but she can also draw. Throughout the book you can find cute little drawings like these that she herself drew, and they're pretty darn awesome! I personally liked the "Me Today" one the best.

In the book she mentions her journey in achieving her own personal style, and how many film characters inspired her throughout that process. Films in which actresses like Winona Ryder from "Heathers", Natalie Portman from  "Leon" and Christina Ricci from "The Addams Family" all played strong female roles.

She also composes a formula as to how she goes about when it comes to getting ready, which happens to be one of my favorite pages cause I pretty much do the same. Guideline is on point, my friends. The picture to your right goes along with her famous look of the wonderful cat eye. (I've attempted this and have epically failed every time). Makeup is not my forte.

One of the things I liked from the book is how she talks about having her heart broken and how she wasn't sure how to go about it. Until one day her mom tells her "Nobody goes through life without having their heart broken and one day you'll wake up and it'll be okay". And now she can't wait to tell her daughter the same one day.

I really do recommend this book. It's very genuine and you can tell that she's pretty much the same human being from text to face to face. There are also helpful tips as to how to exit a car correctly, having an awesome karaoke session, to mastering the art of a self-portrait. So run along now....go get it!

The Art of Thrifting

From a very young age my mother had always taken my sister and I thrifting. Most of the clothes we wore were from thrift shops and our days of thrifting only continued from then on. However, as I grew older I always hoped that no one would find out that many of my clothes were from thrift shops, just to avoid being judged and laughed at. Cause to everyone else thrifting seemed "uncool". But as I grew older, I no longer cared and it's still one of my favorite things to do. The excitement of walking into a store and wondering what awesome thing you'll find never vanishes. So I decided to take a little trip and show you guys that thrifting can be fun and that there's absolutely nothing wrong in doing so.
This is a thrift shop located in Wynwood, down here in Miami. They have many cool things and you can find just about anything in there.

At a thrift shop you can find everything from furniture, books, jewelry, clothes, shoes and things that you've probably haven't seen in a while and makes you a bit nostalgic, but in a good way.

This couch ended up being one of my favorite things I came across that day.

When thrifting you should always have some patience and take the time to look through things. I've found that if you are in no hurry and you allow yourself to be open-minded about things, you usually find some great stuff. And trust me you'll jump from excitement when you find something you know it was meant to be yours. Many times I also find things that look completely brand new, like if no one ever even wore it at all.

Here are some things that I've found thrifting and it's like they were brand new to begin with. A red dress that happened to be from Forever21, and baby blue long sleeve top that looks similar to one you'd find at ModCloth and a black & white striped, short sleeved top that happened to be from Ralph Lauren. You'd be surprised how many well-known brands you will find at pretty low price, which makes the experience of it all even more awesome.

So as you can see thrifting can be really fun and exciting. You can find things that possibly no one else might have and it makes it all even more special cause it's now yours. So if you ever have the urge to try something new, grab a friend just like I did and enjoy the art of thrifting.

Feel free to document your thrifting adventure and take many pictures, it'll be a great memory to look back on. Hope you guys find great treasures!

A Garden of Shoes

Not only do our feet need to be protected, but they need to look fab too! They also need to be let out of the closet every once and while and embrace their awesomeness. Some of them stay in there for long periods of time and never get to see the light. I, like many others, often struggle with pairing my favorite pairs of shoes with the right outfit.

We look at them, know for a fact that the shoes are awesome, but just can't find anything to wear them with. And so they sit there in our closets, collecting dust, hoping for one day to be let out. We know for a fact that getting rid of them is not even a option. So I decided to create a garden of shoes for you and pair them up with outfits, to give you guys an idea on how you can finally wear those shoes you've been dying to get out of the box!

LOOKS:

SHOES:
I paired these fellas with a tribal long sleeve crop top, pleated shorts and a cute hat! But you can also turn this outfit into a more preppy look by changing the top. These were purchased at RocketDog.com

I paired these cute red oxfords with denim overalls, a striped black & white long sleeve top. The beauty with overalls is that you're free to play around with your selection of tops. I bought these from a store here in Miami called Traffic, a couple of years ago. But oxfords are found pretty much everywhere.

Boots are usually my go to shoes. It's very easy to pair them up with anything, especially if they're black! These fellas were thrifted, but you can find boots pretty much anywhere now.

These white lace up ankle boots are currently my favorite! They for sure make your outfit pop and make you look fab! You can find these at ASOS.

These cute white wedges can be found at Forever21. I believe wedges are a lot comfortable to wear. I prefer them over any other kind of heel since my feet are quite sensitive.

I hope you guys find these looks helpful and feel free to share yours too! If you have any questions, feel free to comment~ It's time to let those shoes out!

The Fault in Our Stars

It had been quite a while since I'd read any books and I thought it was time to get back on that reading wagon, explore new stories and enjoy the art of their creation. Though I had come across many different books, very few had caught my attention. Until I came across the very hyped and famous book from author, John Green, "The Fault in Our Stars". And let me tell you it was the best decision of my life to read this book, which is why I suggest you to read it too!

The book revolves around two amazing characters who are battling the awful disease we all know as cancer. Their stories interwined with one another and evolve through time. What's great about this book, besides the fact that it includes a beautiful love story, is that the characters are very genuine and real. John Green did a wonderful job depicting their lives and telling a story where it really showed the truth of what someone who's going through a tough struggle, fights through and keeps going no matter what.

If there were ever any two kinds of characters you'd want to meet in life and be inspired by. It'd definitely be Hazel Grace Lancaster & Augustus Waters. The way their love unfolds is very magical and honest. They're aware that life is tough but it's also beautiful at the same time.

So next time you stop by Barnes & Nobles or your local book store be sure to pick up the book! Did I forget to mention they made the book into a movie?! That's right, and let me tell you how excited I am for it to come out. Here's the trailer so you can be excited as I am and fangirl all about it!
